HENSJO with Jonas Knutsson & Liliana Zavala
A concert that explores the merging of different genres and traditions. Folk music meets jazz and world music in union with Argentine rhythms. Henrik Sjöberg Jazz Orchestra collaborates with saxophone virtuoso Jonas Knutsson and the Argentinian percussionist, singer, and composer, Liliana Zavala. The arrangements, written especially for this orchestra, are a trendy collaboration of different genres and musical traditions, which create a powerful dynamic and unique sound. These musical elements are intertwined by local arranger, Hans Hjortek, composer and arranger, Frode Fjelheim, and arranger and saxophonist Bertil Fält.
HENSJO is led by trumpeter Henrik Sjöberg and is a newly formed constellation consisting of some of the best professional musicians in Västerbotten, Sweden and Österbotten, Finland. Their music is rhythmic and lively, often blurring the boarders between musical genres. The orchestra is not a traditional big band, but instead, it breaks new ground through collaborations with soloists from other genres and other parts of the world.
Jonas Knutsson is well known to the citizens of Umeå and has been part of the Swedish music scene for over 30 years, mainly in jazz, folk, and world music genres. He collaborates with a variety of musicians from around the world and is also a member of the Royal Academy of Music. Ale Möller's band Xenomania includes Jonas as saxophonist.
Liliana Zavala is a percussionist, singer, artist, composer and producer. Hailing from Còrdoba, Argentina, she began her career as a percussionist at the age of 17. In her own trio, she presents her own compositions where Argentinian and Latin American rhythms are mixed with Swedish folk music. Influences from African aesthetics can also be discerned. Liliana was nominated to Artist of the Year in Sweden 2018 after her debut CD "Cabildo". The album has received rave reviews in both Sweden and Argentina. Liliana is also part of Ale Möller's Xenomania.
